Kim Mahaffy is one of Australia’s most dynamic Hotel General Managers.
Mahaffy brings a rich layer of international experience having worked extensively in Asia and Australia, enabling her to uniquely craft a cultural lens. Her ability to combine creativity, emotional intelligence and operational prowess is what makes Mahaffy stand out in the hotel game.
In her role as General Manager at Pier One Sydney Harbour, Mahaffy has positioned the historic harbourside property to be a pinnacle hotel for Marriott in Australia and a Signature Autograph Hotel globally.
Mahaffy has reimagined all aspects of the hotel experience including the award-winning restaurant The Gantry, Pier Bar, the hotel’s newest evolution of harbourside entertainment as well as a plethora of magnificent events, weddings, conferences and brand activations.
Under Mahaffy’s direction, the property has undergone an eight year 360 degree renovation while maintaining hotel operations. The layers of beautification and evolution across the property have taken place while honouring the wharf’s unique heritage on Sydney Harbour including the rooms, suites and a full under pier restoration project.
A senior leader at Marriott International for over 30 years, Mahaffy assumed the role of General Manager at Pier One Sydney Harbour in 2014. Prior to this she worked as a Senior Director in Brand Management for Marriott International in Hong Kong. Mahaffy served as General Manager of two leading Marriott hotels in Suzhou and Shanghai, China for 7 years and also held a range of management positions in hotel operations throughout China, Indonesia and Australia.
Over the course of her career Mahaffy has been awarded numerous awards for her service to the hotel industry including Hotel Manager of the Year at the Women in Travel Awards.
Mahaffy remains passionate about the Australian hotel industry, creating collaborative brand experiences and empowering all associates to develop their careers at Marriott and beyond. In her role as Leader, ‘Women In Leadership’ for Marriott International ANZP, she also places a strong emphasis on opening doors to allow women in the hotel industry to progress into leadership roles.
